Squash

I now play squash at least twice a week, sometimes three times (playing in the evening after work). It has the advantage of being indoors, thus unaffected by the weather (sun, heat or pouring rain) and fun! The first time I played, I was so exhausted that I went home and went straight to bed. It goes without saying that the next day I had muscle pain everywhere. I no longer have muscle pain, but because I run into the wall to get the ball, I have marks and bruises everywhere! I literally run into the wall like a cartoon character – but I am gradually learning to stop before and act like a sensible person…

Sometimes I play with Mr. Naina, a tennis/squash coach, and it’s impossible to play more than an hour with him! I am out of breath, can’t run anymore, and I look at him, and can’t tell if he’s just played for an hour or if he is going to! He is unbelievably inalterable and is always standing there with the same smile. For all I know, he may be continuing to play while I get massaged…

  1. Hi Yuki,
I live in Tana also and I love to play squash. Where do you play? I have been looking for a place to play since we arrived almost 6 months ago.

    Thank you,
    Laura

  2. Hi Laura,

You can play squash at ACSA, which is a sports club near the lac Anosy, across the street from the Ministry of Health, right after the tunnel if you’re coming from Analakely/Ambohijatovo. You have to be a member to play there, but you can also play as a guest if you go with a member. Membership fee is reasonable, especially for couples/families. There is one squash court, and as far as I know, it is the only one in Tana. There are also six tennis courts and a swimming pool (outdoor).

    Have fun!
    Yuki
